Students from different countries want to work in Germany as an attractive destination for studying and job selection. Actually, the facility to get job opportunities during their studying period is what attracts many students’ attention.

Students in Germany get special privileges to work while studying if they want to. There are some procedures which have to be fulfilled in order to confirm whether the student’s study is going to be affected by their job or not. For maintaining the students' better study life, students are allowed to work 20 hours per week. Actually, the privilege to do a job during graduation study is specially arranged for those who aren’t able to cover the full cost of living in Germany on their own.

Those who started liking to stay within Germany after graduation surely has to try to find work in Germany. The only thing which is required in the country is hard work as there are lots of opportunities!!

Due to these kinds of job vacancies in Germany, International students and students from within the country both get to have a chance of having a quality education academically, creating a financially stable life and an excellent career. Because of the enormous amount of jobs in Germany, the number of international students has gone above 4 lakh up to this date proving this country as one of the most favorable countries to pursue a degree.

Students are prioritized only on three bases in Germany; European Union students or EU students (those who have resided within the European Union for a certain period of time before applying for the study program of their choice), Non-European Union students or Non-EU students, and the students from within the nation. However, the students from the European Union are given equal privileges to the students from within the country.

If any international student wants to work in Germany then there are some points which he or she has to take into consideration before joining any vacancy. Here’s everything which international students need to know before starting working in Germany after graduation:

Work in Germany for EU Students

Students who are from the EU/EEA member country (not just them but also from Iceland, Norway,  Lichtenstein, or Switzerland) can look out for every employment opportunity just after graduation right away whichever they like without any work permits as mentioned early they have the same privileges as the students from within the country. They won’t even require any student visa to study within Germany as well which is required by the non-EU students.

Work in Germany for Non-EU Students

It’s not much of a problematic place to be but yet it has some of its own limitations though like the Non-EU/EEA students can only work for 120 full days or 240 half days per year. Anyone with a job as a student assistant or research assistant at their university, their working durations are not counted for which they have to notify the Alien Registration Office if they take up such work in Germany.

On the other hand, if they take an internship during their semester break, then those working periods will be regarded as normal working hours, whether they are paid or unpaid. Those working hours would be directly subtracted from the 120-day credit balance. The other disadvantage to the non-EU students is that they aren’t allowed to work as self-employed and freelancers.

The greatest advantage to the students working in Germany is that they can earn up to €450 (~US$491) per month tax-free. But anyone earning more than the early mentioned amount will be provided with an income tax number and automatically the taxed money will be deducted from his or her salary. In case any officials have deducted money from any student’s salary without it exceeding the allowance then the student has to just submit an income tax statement for it and he or she will have his required amount back.

If you have knowledge of the German language, a job in German translation is also good. The knowledge of the German language with a completed internship sure does bring a lot of opportunities to the students for acquiring jobs. Especially those who are searching for a job in Germany's capital city; Berlin, those students, if they only have the knowledge of English and the native language; German then can earn a lot of chances in Germany. But if they are studying for language or a preparatory course then the requirements are stricter as you will only be allowed to work during the lecture-free periods only on the consent of the federal employment agency and the foreigner's authority.

It’s very useful to have a job during the studying period as the non-EU/EEA graduates only get an 18 month time period to get hired by any organization or they would be sent to their home country without the job at hand. So it's better to work whatever the job is offered till you get your dream job for extending the time period to stay within the country.

Q. What should be done by a person to get an extension in his permit of residence?

After successfully getting employed and signing an employment contract of a minimum of 1 year, these people get the privilege to apply for the EU Blue Card.

The EU Blue Card is similar to the green card of the US which is used for getting access to the country’s residential rights. They can be obtained by those non-EU students who have graduated from German university if they want to stay and work in Germany. For this, the person should have a university or college degree and a job contract with any German company. They may pay him or her at least €56,800 per year. In the case of a low-skilled worker, the salary must be approximately €44,304.

The foremost period for the validity of the EU Blue Card is four years but the validity may vary depending upon the contract signed by the German company. Only after 33 months of residence in the country, one become eligible to apply for the settlement permit for permanent residence.

The required things for applying to get the EU Blue Card in order to get the residential rights are listed below:-

Q. So!!!! What is more there to know about the settlement in Germany after graduation?

As we know already, the common way to get a settlement permit is to stay and live and work for 33months in Germany. However, there is also another way too. If someone with a B1 level of German language proficiency is working in Berlin for 21months then he or she is also qualified for the settlement permit. It will authorize them to live, work, study in Germany and bring family members to Germany.

And that’s not the last of it. Once the person has spent 8 years in Germany on a settlement permit, He or she can get naturalized ( recognized as a German citizen).

Q. Is it possible to work in Germany after returning to your home country?

Yes, even after returning home after graduation if someone wants to return to Germany to work then he or she only has to get access to the Jobseeker visa. It will allow them for a period of six months to work in Germany in order to find employment.

The one and the only problem with this visa is that it won’t make the candidate eligible to work while they are looking for full-time employment as the residence permit and similar to the early mentioned regulations after the person has found employment with a minimum one-year contract, he or she can apply for an EU Blue Card.

Q. Are there any Employment Opportunities for International Graduates in Germany?

Germany has been one of the topmost skilled individuals searching for a spot as there are several companies which have been in search of skilled candidates every year. There are several job opportunities for the graduated students but the answer for which job has to be taken by each one of them entirely depends on them.
